The Victory Bell is a mobile trophy awarded to the winner of the annual football competition between the Duke University Blue Devils and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. The game is worth two points in the Carlyle Cup all year round between the two schools. North Carolina led the 58-39-4 series, with two victories vacated by North Carolina.

Histori
North Carolina and Duke first met in football in 1888, and the series has been updated annually since 1922.
Two cheerleaders, Loring Jones from Duke and Norman Sper of North Carolina, are very influential in the concept of Victory Bell. Jones designed the model and Sper acquired Bell from an old train. North Carolina won the first Victory Bell game with a 20-0 win at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in 1948.
At one time, the series was a bit heated like a basketball competition between two schools. However, in recent years North Carolina has dominated the competition. The Tar Heels have won all but four meetings since 1990, including 13 in a row from 1990 to 2002. When Duke wins the 2012 and 2013 games, it marks the first time that the Duke has won consecutive games in the series since winning three straight from 1987 until 1989. The bell is back with Duke for 2016, though, after a 1-point win over Tar Heels. In 2017, Duke again defeated UNC, this time in Chapel Hill.

Tradition
It's been a recent tradition for winners to spray the trophy platform to match their school colors - Blue Carolina to North Carolina and the royal blue to Duke. After losing Victory Bell in 2003, North Carolina returned the following year and defeated Duke 40-17 at Wallace Wade Duke Stadium. After the close of the match, North Carolina football players immediately sprayed the Carolina blue platform, leaving a large number of residuals of Carolina blue paint on the stadium track. Every time North Carolina had a Victory Bell, the cheerleader came out while ringing a bell at the same time a live ram mascot, Rameses, was taken to the field. The bells are also displayed in front of the student section.
Game results
While the two schools agree that North Carolina leads the series, they disagree on the overall record. This is due to the 1889 game where both teams stay at home because they believe they are the home team. As a result, both schools claimed the match as a victory due to losing.
North Carolina claimed the all-time 59-38-4 lead, a claim backed by the most neutral record holders. Duke claims North Carolina leads 58-39-4. Both schools agreed that North Carolina vacated the victory in 2008 and 2009. Both schools also agreed that North Carolina lead the series since the introduction of Victory Bell with a 43-23-1 record, with two North Carolina wins emptied.
Note: Duke became known as Trinity College until 1924.
Both schools claim this game as a victory due to loss; the most neutral record holder crediting games to North Carolina ? North Carolina vacated victory from the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
