Tibor "Ted" Juracsik was a tool-maker and died when he met Billy Pate in 1972 on a fishing trip to Islamorada, Florida. Asked by Pate if he could make better scrolls, Jurascik developed an anti-reverse tire response. Pate ordered more and sold it in his Islamadora store.
Tibor Reel was founded in 1976 and manufacturing operations moved to Florida. Based in Delray Beach, the company employs 30 people and produces about 4,000 rolls per year. Except for ball bearings, machining and assembling is done at family-owned factories. Reel finally changed its name to Billy Pate.
