The Dodger Dog is a hot dog named after the Major League Baseball franchise that sells it (Los Angeles Dodgers). This is a 10 inch pork wiener wrapped in steamed buns. Hot dogs are sold at Dodger Stadium located in Los Angeles, California. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, the number of hot dogs of summer 2011 that are marketed at Dodger Stadium is 2 million - founded Farmer John Dodger Dogs as the leader in hot dog sales from all those sold at the Major League Baseball baseball stadium.

There are two lines for the Dodger Dog vendor: steamed or baked. The roasted dog vendors are usually located near the back wall of the stadium so the smoke does not overwhelm the baseball fans. The Roasted Dog is considered a "classic" version.

The success of Dodger Dog has led to a small chain of restaurants in the Southern California area. One restaurant called Dodger Dogs can be found in Universal City, California. Dog Dodger is also available in a variety of "Super Dodger Dog", made from 100% beef as compared to 100% pork. It is believed that the Dodger Dog was first called "Dog Dodger" in 1958 when the Dodgers first came to Los Angeles from Brooklyn. Dodger Dog wieners are also sold to the public in the Southern California supermarket under the Farmer John brand. In 2011, Dodgers introduced a Mexican-themed "Doyer Dog" made with chili, salsa, and jalepeÃÆ' Â ± os and spices replaced the standard soy sauce and mustard on a typical hotdog.

Dog Dodger is also presented at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, OK, home of the AAA Dodgers affiliate, Oklahoma City Dodgers. The concession area called "Dog Pound" serves hot dogs from stadiums across the country including Fenway Frank, Cincinnati Cheese Coney, Milwaukee Brat, and The Red Hot Chicago Dog. The Dodger Dog is not, however, served at the Dodgers' spring baseball stadium, Camelback Ranch, during the team's first spring training in the park. This was changed for the spring 2010 training season in which Dog Dodger was cooked on a hot dog roller or steamed.

Creator

Thomas Arthur created the "Dodger Dog" for 29 years (1962-1991) as a food concession manager at Dodger Stadium. Initially, a 10-inch dog was sold as a "Foot Log," but Thomas Arthur decided the truth in advertising was the best way. He approached Walter O'Malley, the majority owner of Dodgers, and asked if Hot Dogs could be called "Dodger Dogs" which became a staple food for Dodger fans that Vincent Price described his delicacy in his recipe book, "Treasury of Great Recipes." The 10- inch wiener was originally created by Morrell Meat Company, but Farmer John, one of Dodgers' main sponsors, soon took over the stadium's hot dog needs. Farmer John was bought by Hormel in 2004. Farmer John was purchased from Hormel by Smithfield Foods in 2017.
