Animal repellent is a product designed to keep certain animals away from objects, areas, people, plants, or other animals.

Rejectors generally work by taking advantage of the animal's natural aversion to something, and often the thing chosen is something that the animal has learned to avoid (or instinctively) in its natural environment.

For example, some animals will avoid anything that has a particular predator urine smell. Tiger urine is very effective to keep animals away. Coyote urine has earned currency as a reindeer. The fox urine is used to repel rabbits, groundhogs, woodchucks, squirrels and chipmunks. Male cat urine to repair rats, mice, rodents and other rodents. The wolf urine is used to repel the deer.

Chemical repellers mimic a natural substance that expels or blocks animals, or they are designed so annoyingly for a particular animal or animal species so that the targeted animal will avoid protected objects or territories. Some chemical repellents combine the two principles. There are many homemade reindeer recipes on the web.

For example, Milorganite fertilizer is claimed to be an effective repellent because it smells. Rejectors fall into two main categories, odors and flavors. The rejection smell works better in the warmer season and the taste repellent works better in the cold months. The repellents only work after the deer or other animals bite the plants. If you have plants that do not want to be bitten, use odor or a combination of both.

Scientists from the University of Florida explain that "Most of these obstacles operate through one of several mechanisms: smelly smoothing, refinement of taste, or compulsion of fear". Pepper, peppermint, tarragon, garlic, a variety of essential oils, castor oil, diatomaceous soils, and putrescent eggs are regarded as contacts called contact contacts operating through the first and second mechanisms. The third type of repellent contains animal origin, such as the animal's enemy's urine (such as coyotes or foxes), dried blood and hair inducing animal panic pests and escaping them, as confirmed by the University of Massachusetts Amherst specialist.

Other non-chemical repellent types are sometimes used. Simple electric or barbed wire fences can mechanically reject livestock or predatory animals. Some electrical repellent systems have been tested against sharks. High frequency whistles have been used on vehicles to drive deer off the highway, and similar devices have been used to block and repel certain types of insects or rodents. Repellents for domestic cats and dogs can also be found; these include ultrasonic devices that emit high-frequency sounds that do not affect humans. This type of non-chemical repellent is quite controversial because its effectiveness varies from person to person. In addition, there are several scientific studies conducted to prove that they succeed. However, they are a safe and humane way to get rid of pests.

There are also some alternative ways to repel Cats and Dogs effectively, such as repellent chemical sprays, electronic pet barrier, active sprinkler movement etc. In addition, vinegar can be used as an organic pet repellent.

Flash lights are used to drive the lion in Kenya.

The ideal repellent is really specific to the target animal; ie to expel the animal it wants to refuse without affecting or injuring animals or others. One type of animal repellent may be effective for raccoons, while other animal repellers may be more effective for skunks. It may be difficult to design a repellent method that expels unwanted animals and has no effect on humans or other creatures.

Snake repellent

  • Research has shown that cinnamon oil, clove oil, and eugenol are effective snake repellent. The snake will retreat when sprayed directly with this oil and will exit from the cargo or other confined spaces when the oil is introduced into the area.
  • In ancient times the Greek historian Herodotus notes that the Arab harvester of incense uses burning resins from the tree Styrax to repel poisonous snakes that live in the trees.

  • Roots and other parts of Acacia polyacantha subsp. campylacantha emits chemical compounds that expel animals including rats, snakes, and crocodiles. For snakes, the roots are placed in the rafters of the house.
