The 100 Inning Game is an annual charity fundraiser. Founded by Boston Men's Baseball League, the largest amateur baseball league in New England, in 2004 to raise funds to support Curt's Pitch for ALS, a charitable organization started by former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. The organization supports the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This game holds the current world record for the longest baseball game ever played.

Every year, more than a hundred players from the Boston Men's Baseball League and other teams from the surrounding area come together in the spring to play 100 consecutive full games of baseball. Often it takes about 36 hours to complete. Schilling's wife makes an annual appearance at a charity event, even playing several times on certain occasions. Curt Schilling personally receives checks annually for his organization.

History

Start

The 100 Inning Game was first conceived in February 2004 by Brett Rudy and Mike Lembo, both members of the Boston Men's Baseball League. Through e-mail communication, the two developed the idea behind the charity event, which is to create a game that will coincide with the arrival of a new Boston Red Sox pitcher, Curt Schilling, and who will support his organization, Curt's Pitch for ALS.

A meeting between Brett, Mike, and ALS Association MA Chapter took place and the deal was quickly struck to make things work. After some convincing to the Department of Conservation and Recreation the City of Boston permission was issued to use Kelly Field in Hyde Park for the inaugural match - marking the first time the City of Boston ever gave permission for the event all night lasted. The 17th and 18th of April were decided, quite appropriately on the 'Weekend Marathon'. "

That first year, the players have raised more than $ 113,000. The game is played by 180 players and takes over 36 hours to complete. A check was delivered by the game manager to Curt Schilling in the field at Fenway Park later that year.

Since 2005

The 2005 edition of 100 Inning Game was played at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Massachusetts and hosted by Brockton Rox. This year, the event raised more funds, with more than $ 113,000 raised and presented to the charity by the end of the year.

The following year, the show was played at Hanover Insurance Park at the Fitton Field stadium, located at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, the Can-Am professional league house, Worcester Tornadoes. This year brought an additional $ 85,000 to charity, making a total of 3 years out of 100 Inning Games $ 310,000 donated to Curt's Pitch for ALS.

The 2008 game was held on 30 and 31 August at Adams Field in Ouincy, marking the date change. This game also removes "Dirty Dozen", the 12 people who can participate all 100 turns.

Also worth noting, the 2006 game was headed by Walter Bentson, an ALS sufferer. Despite the extreme difficulty imposed by the disease on his ability to referee, he managed to remain in the crew for the duration of the game.
