Byron Keiron Buxton (born December 18, 1993) is an American professional baseball midfielder for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is the second highest prospect in baseball according to MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus in 2015.
Buxton attended Appling County High School in Baxley, Georgia. He is considered by some baseball analysts to be the most talented player available in the 2012 Premier League Baseball Draft, and was chosen as the second overall pick. He won the 20th Minor League of the Year Award. Buxton made his MLB debut in 2015 and won the Gold Glove Award and Platinum Glove Award in 2017.

Amateur career
Buxton started playing baseball when he was six years old. He studied at Appling County High School in Baxley, Georgia, where he played for baseball teams, basketball, and school football. In his high school years, Buxton was given the nickname "Buck". As a pitcher during his senior year, he has a 10-1 win-win record with an average run of 1.90 and 154 strikeouts in 81 innings. Buxton also threw a recorded fastball at 99 miles per hour (159 km/h). His speed finally got him a speed rating above the 70 average when he left high school and prepared for draft.
Spies saw Buxton when he was 15 years old. He was recruited to play on the summer team. She appeared on a baseball showcase, including the East Coast Pro Showcase and Under Armor Baseball All-America Game. As a senior in high school, Buxton earned an average of 0.353 strokes with 38 bases stolen in 39 matches. Buxton is committed to a college baseball scholarship with the University of Georgia, intending to try to walk to the football team. Professional career
2012-2014
Minnesota Twins picked Buxton by choosing a second overall in Draft 2012. Buxton signed a contract with Twins on June 12, 2012, including a signing bonus of $ 6 million. He made his professional debut in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) with Gulf Coast Twins from Rookie-level Gulf Coast League (GCL), where he fought.216 in 26 games. Later in the year, he was promoted to Elizabethton Twins of the Rookie-level Appalachian League, and was beaten.286 in 21 games. He was named the top prospect in the GCL.
Buxton started the 2013 season with Cedar Rapids Kernels from Class A Midwest League. After he fought.340 with eight home runs and 32 stolen bases to start the season, Twins promoted Buxton to the Fort Myers Miracle of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in June. With midseason, MLB.com, Keith Law from ESPN.com, and Baseball America sees Buxton as the best prospect in baseball. He represents the Twins in the All-Star Futures Game. With Fort Myers, Buxton collected an average of 0.326 with four home runs, 22 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. After the season, Buxton was named the most valuable player in the Midwest League. Baseball America named Buxton Player of the Minor League of the Year, and he won the J. G. Taylor Spink Award, awarded jointly by Topps and MiLB, as the Player of the Year.
The Twins invited Buxton to participate in spring training in 2014. He injured his left wrist, narrowed his joints, while diving for the ball and opening the 2014 season on the disabled list. He activated on May 4, and was assigned to Fort Myers. After playing in five games with Miracle, Buxton avenged his wrist. Buxton fought 0.240 in 30 matches before receiving promotion to the New England Cat from the AA Eastern League Class on 11 August. In his first game with New England, on 13 August, Buxton collided with fellow outfielder Mike Kvasnicka. Buxton was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a concussion. The Twins closed Buxton for the rest of the regular season, but assigned him to the Arizona Fall League after the season.
2015-present
Despite losing most of the 2014 season, MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus rated Buxton as the best prospect in baseball at the start of the 2015 season, and Baseball America named it the # 2 prospect by 2015. Buxton opened the 2015 season with affiliates The new AA class belongs to Twins, Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League. The Twins promoted Buxton to debut in the premier league on 14 June. He scored the winning goal in his debut. Buxton recorded his first hit, triple, in his second game. After playing in ten matches, Buxton twisted his thumb and got into the disabled list. The Twins activated Buxton from the disabled list on August 10 and selected him to Rochester Red Wings of the AAA International League Class, due to strong play from Aaron Hicks.
Buxton started the 2016 season as a starter starter Twins. However, he was beaten.156 in 17 games, while attacking at his 53% in the bat, and was selected to Rochester on 25 April. He was called again during mid-season and remained in midfield. He finished with an average of 0.225 with 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases. According to Statcast, Buxton led MLB in average run speed after tying with Jarrod Dyson to lead in the previous season.
Buxton once again became the opening day of Twins' day to start the 2017 season. He only hit 0.219 in early August. On August 18, 2017, he was safely at home on the fastest home run inside the park ever recorded by Statcast, spinning around the base in 13.85 seconds. On August 27, Buxton scored three home runs against Toronto Blue Jays. He hit 0.324 in August 2017 with eight home runs and eight stolen bases to raise his season's average to 0.249. He won his first career Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award for all major league players, as well as for midfield, awarded to top defenders in major leagues in every position. He also won the Fielding Bible Award, Rawlings Gold Glove Award, and the Platinum Glamor Award for the American League. He again beat out Cincinnati Reds player Billy Hamilton to lead MLB in running speed.

Personal life
Buxton comes from Graham, Georgia, where he spends his teenage years through high school. His father, Felton, owns a trucking company, and his mother, Carrie, works in the school cafeteria. She has a sister. Buxton's cousin, Dexter Carter, is a retired professional footballer.
Buxton started dating Lindsey Tillery in 2012. He also attended Appling County High School, and three years earlier than Buxton. The couple had a son together named Brixton Buxton, who was born in 2013.
