In common usage, spoon is a special spoon used to serve food.
In technical terms used by the food service industry and in the retail and wholesale eater industry, there is a clear distinction between the three types of spoon: disheran , which is used to measure the portion of eg. baking dough, to make melon balls, and often to serve ice cream (although manufacturers often advise against using food for ice cream and other frozen foods); ice cream spoons, and spoons used to measure or to transfer large amounts of unspecified dry food such as rice, flour, or sugar.

Disher
Plates are usually half-spherical like an ice cream scoop, while the measuring spoon is usually cylindrical, and the transfer spoons are usually shaped. Some disher have mechanical levers that help remove the contents that are propagated. Traditionally dishers are the size with the number of spoons per liter but can also be sized with ounces, bowl diameter, or the number of tablespoons they hold.

Ice Cream Scoop
Some of the higher ice cream scoops have a thermally conductive liquid on the handle to help keep ice cream from frozen to a metal spoon.
Transfer Scoop
Spoon transfer (aka utility spoon) is used to transfer bulk food from large storage containers to smaller containers, and generally has no measurement marks, since the purpose is to transfer, and taking time to adjust the amount in one spoon will slow the transfer rate.
