Mark Allan Richt (born February 18, 1960) is an American football coach and former player. He is the head coach of football at the University of Miami, his alma mater, and the recipient of Walter Camp's Best Coach Award in 2017.
Richt plays college football as a quarterback in Miami. His previous affiliate training included 14 years at Florida State University where he served as offensive coordinator and midfield coach under Bobby Bowden, a year as an offensive coordinator at East Carolina University, and 15 years as head coach at the University of Georgia. He has the third highest winning percentage among active FBS Division 1 trainers who have coached 200 matches or more and have produced 93 draft options (second highest).

In the early years and playing career
Richt grew up in a blue collar family, the second oldest of five children. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Lou and Helen Richt. Lou works as a tool maker and dies for Western Electric. In 1967, the Richt family moved to Boulder, Colorado when Lou got a new job. In 1973, Lou was transferred to South Florida where Mark would graduate from high school.
Richt became a star athlete in Boca Raton High and called "All Turnpike" due to the numerous awards he received around the state of Florida. As a middle school quarterback, he was recruited by the University of Miami, Florida State University, and Brown University. He chose to attend the University of Miami, an hour south of his family.
College Academy & amp; professional career
Richt played at the University of Miami from 1978-1982. Under coach Howard Schnellenberger, Richt is a reserve for Pro Football Hall of Fame midfielder Jim Kelly's first round. In subsequent years in Miami, Miami's first-round quarterbacks he played together included the Heisman Vinny Testaverde and Bernie Kosar trophies. He is mentored by quarterback coach Earl Morrall. Despite limited play time, Richt still collects nearly 1,500 yards. The Miami Hurricane Team of 1981 finished 9-2, ranked 8th in the country, while the 1980 team finished 9-3, ranked 18th in the country. Florida State University (1985-1988)
Richt started his coaching career after being offered a job by Bobby Bowden as a graduate assistant for Florida State Seminoles. Bowden has recruited Richt as a high school quarterback. East East University (1989)
At age 29, Richt was employed as an offensive coordinator at East Carolina University. Richt was employed by Bill Lewis, who had previously been a defensive coordinator in Georgia. Lewis hired Richt from Florida State to help with recruitment.
Florida State University (1990-2000)
After a year in East Carolina, Bowden took Richt back to Florida State to serve as seminoles quarterbacks coach. Richt was promoted to an offensive coordinator in 1994 after the departure of Brad Scott. Under Richt, Florida State has one of the most explosive violations of college football. For seven years as an offensive coordinator, Seminoles entered the top five offense scorers in the country for five seasons, they were ranked twelve in total offense for five seasons, and the top twelve in total offense for five seasons. Richt trained two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks: Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke. Richt trained a total of six FSU quarterbacks to the NFL, including Ward, Weinke, Brad Johnson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Danny Kanell (New York Giants), Danny McManus (Kansas City Chiefs) and Peter Tom Willis (Chicago Bears). During this period, the FSU won seven successive ACC titles and two national championships (1993 and 1999).
University of Georgia (2001-2015)
Richt was hired as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs before the 2001 season, replacing Jim Donnan. Tim Richt won two Southeastern Conference championships (SEC) (2002 and 2005), six SEC Eastern Division titles (2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2012), and nine bowl games. His teams represented the SEC in three BCS bowl appearances with a 2-1 record, and finished in the top ten of the AP Poll at the end of seven times (2002-2005, 2007, 2012, 2014). His team in 2008 also finished in the top ten coach polls.
Season 2015 and dismissal
The 2015 Georgia Bulldogs soccer team is favorites to win the Eastern Division of the SEC. The Bulldogs started the season 4-0 with the SEC win over Vanderbilt with a score of 31-14 and South Carolina with a score of 52-20. On 3 October, the eventual national champion Alabama came to Athens and defeated the Bulldog with a score of 38-10. Georgia then suffered two additional conference defeats to Florida and Tennessee. Georgia finished the regular season 9-3 after four straight wins, including a road win over Auburn with a score of 20-13 and Georgia Tech with a score of 13-7.
The day after Georgia Tech's match, Richt was fired after 15 seasons as head coach.
University of Miami (2015-present) Richt serves as head coach of Miami Hurricanes and calls off all theatrical plays. He worked closely with the quarterback during training, along with his eldest son and quarterback coach, Jon Richt. In his second year as head coach, he helped Miami win his first ACC Coastal title. Richt was appointed ACC Coach of the Year for this achievement.
Fan reaction to sign
After leaving Georgia, Richt was appointed head coach of Hurricanes from the University of Miami, his alma mater. Richt made the announcement on December 4, 2015. 2017 seasons

Personal and family life
Richt married former Katharyn Francis of Tallahassee, Florida. They live two miles from campus in Coconut Grove. Katharyn completed her nursing degree in 2016.
