Jennings & amp; The Company is a leading manufacturer of slot machines in the United States and also produces other coin-operated machines, including pinball machines, from 1906 to 1980s. The company was founded by Ode D. Jennings as Industry Novelty Company, Incorporated of Chicago. At the death of its founder in 1953, the company was replaced by Jennings & amp; Company.

Ode D. Jennings was born in Kentucky on September 6, 1874.
Ode D. Jennings works at Mills Novelty Company and runs The Spectatorium, a penny arcade, for the company at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (World Exposition 1904 in St. Louis, Missouri).
In 1906, Ode Jennings founded the Industry Novelty Company, Incorporated. The business is an improved slot machine manufactured by Mills.
Ode Jennings acquired US patent 1,403,933, awarded on January 17, 1922, for a better mechanical coin sorting tool. Increases associated with the expenditure of coins are too small.
In July 1923, O. D. Jennings & amp; Co has purchased from the business liquidation of Garbell Typewriter Corporation of Chicago, which produces GAR-BELL portable typewriters, created by Max Garbell. Despite further improvements, which are protected by patents, the machine fails in the market.
In 1925, Ode Jennings moved into a house in a place known as 220 Civic Drive (originally Schaumburg Road) in the village of Schaumburg, Illinois. The house will remain his home until his death.
On November 24, 1925, Ode Jennings was granted, as inventor, US Patent 1,562,771 for an improved mechanical coin control device. The improved apparatus is said to be more efficient and prevents the next coin from disturbing the equipment while the first coin is received.
Between 1935 and 1936, O. D. Jennings & amp; Co. manufactures payball pinball machines called Sportsman. The device is a gambling device, more like a slot machine than a modern pinball table. Some of the technologies in the machine were protected by US 2,003,349 patents, which were awarded to inventor Clifford R. Dumble.
On November 21, 1953, 79, Ode Jennings died at home in Schaumburg, Illinois after 47 years at the helm of the company he founded. He left everything for his wife, Jeannette Isle Jennings; they have no children; provided that it was symbolized to his church and the local hospital for his death. On March 19, 1954 Jennings & amp; The company was founded under Illinois law and bought the assets of O. D. Jennings & amp; Company from Ode Jennings plantation.
On May 15, 1957 Jennings & amp; The company was merged into Hershey Manufacturing Company of Illinois, a company incorporated on 27 April 1939. More than 80% of Hershey Manufacturing's business consisted of making and selling slot machines through Jennings division, although also involved in government subcontracting and manufacturing of vending machines and photoflash equipment.

In the early 1960s, the business was acquired by American Machine and Science Company (AMSC) owned by Wallace Carroll. AMSC also acquired Bell-O-Matic Corporation, and the two companies merged to form TJM Corporation. TJM Corporation is run by two brothers, Tony Mills and John Mills. The incorporated companies failed to compete successfully with the electronics/mechanical models produced by Bally and also suffered because Bell-O-Matic did not protect its intellectual property rights in Japan. The company ceased trading in the 1980s.
In 1963, after the death of Jeannette Isle Jennings, Jennings' family home and the surrounding land was donated to the village of Schaumburg, Illinois and used as a village hall until 1971. The prize of US $ 500,000 was symbolized to the Northwest Chicago Memorial Hospital in November 1963 (later called Passavant Memorial Hospital) and used to fund part of the development of Ode D. Jennings Pavilion, which opened in May 1966.
