Christmas Decoration is one of the few ornaments used during Christmas time. The traditional colors of Christmas are green pine (green), white snow, and red hearts. Blue and white are often used to represent winter, or sometimes Hanukkah, which occurs around the same time. Gold and silver are also very common, like other metallic colors. The typical Christmas decorations include Baby Jesus, Father Christmas, Santa Claus, and the star of Bethlehem. Typical winter icons include snowflakes, snowmen, ice, and even penguins and polar bears.

In many countries, like Sweden, people are beginning to prepare their Advent and Christmas decorations on the first day of Advent. Liturgically, this is done in some parishes through the Hanging of the Greens ceremony. In the Western Christian world, the traditional two days when the Christmas decoration is removed is the Twelfth Night and if they are not lowered on that day, Candlemas, the last one that ends the Christmas season-Epiphany in some denominations. Allowing decorations outside Candlemas has historically been considered unprofitable.

Tree

The Christmas tree is sometimes described as a Christianization of pagan and ritual traditions around the winter solstice, which includes the use of pine branches, and the adaptation of pagan tree worship. The English phrase "Christmas tree" was first recorded in 1835 and represents imports from German. The tradition of the modern Christmas tree, though, is believed to have begun in Germany in the 18th century although many argue that Martin Luther started a tradition in the 16th century. From Germany, the custom was introduced to England, first through Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, and later more successful by Prince Albert during the early reign of Queen Victoria. The influential 1840s picture of the Queen's green flower was reissued in the US, and as the first widely circulated image of a Christmas tree decorated in America, the custom spread there. Christmas trees can be decorated with lights and ornaments.

Sometimes the competition is held. Gifts are given to families who produce the best examples. Santa Claus, angels, birds, animals, and other traditional Yuletide subjects are favorites.

F.W. Woolworth found these glass ornaments on his way to buying toys and dolls to Sonnenburg, Germany in the 1890s. He sold it in his "five and ten sen" stores in America. The ornaments are said to contribute to Woolworth's great business success.

Season

Christmas decorations are usually prepared in late November or early December, usually coinciding with the commencement of Advent. In the UK, Christmas lights on the highways are generally lit in November. In the US, the traditional start of Christmas time is Thanksgiving. Large retailers place their seasonal decorations for sale after returning to school sales, while smaller Christmas Stores sell Christmas decorations throughout the year.

In some places Christmas decorations are traditionally downgraded on Twelfth Night, the night of January 5th or January 6th. This date difference is due to the fact that some count Christmas Day as the first day of Christmas, while for others Christmas Day is a party day in itself, and the first full day of the Christmas Season is December 26th. In Hispanic and other cultures, it's more like Christmas Eve, because Three Wise Men bring gifts that night, and therefore the decor is left for longer. The same is true in the Eastern Churches who often observe Christmas according to the Julian Calendar, thus making it fall 13 days later.

In the UK, it is customary to burn the decorations in the fireplace, but this tradition has failed because the reusable and imperishable decorations made of plastic, wood, glass and metal are becoming more popular. If Yule Log has been left on since Christmas Day, it's expelled and the ashes put in fire on the next Christmas Day. A superstition indicates that if the decorations are kept after the Twelfth Night, they must be guarded until the next Twelfth Night, but also that if the decorations for Christmas are currently down before the New Year begins, bad luck will befall the house for a whole year.

In the United States, most stores immediately remove the decorations the day after Christmas, as if the holiday season is over after the prize is bought. Almost all Americans leave their home decor and light up until at least the New Year, and inside the decor can often be seen in the window for a few days afterwards.
