The 2017 Division I NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament is played from Friday, 17 March to Sunday, April 2, 2017, with the Final Four played at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on March 31 and April 2 This is the first time Princess Final Final was played in Dallas and for the first time since 2002 that four Final matches were played on Friday and Sunday instead of Sunday and Tuesday. South Carolina beat Mississippi State to win the championship.
Tennessee continues his record of making every NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament in 36 consecutive appearances. Connecticut also went on to record a record of 10 consecutive Final Four appearances.

Tournament procedures and subregional automated checking
Option for NCAA Women's League Division 2017 Division was announced at 7 pm. Eastern time, Monday, March 13th through ESPN.
The basis for subregional returns to the approach used between 1982 and 2002; The top sixteen teams, selected in the bracket selection process, hosted the first two rounds on campus.
A total of 64 teams enter the 2017 tournament. 32 team bids are automatically awarded to teams that win their conference tournaments. The remaining 32 teams were awarded an "on-large" offer, extended by the NCAA Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee also spans the entire field from 1 to 64.

First round
- South Carolina takes UNC Asheville in a match between top seed and 16 seeds. Coach Staley should make adjustments as a result of a season-ending injury to starter Alaina Coates. He started four guards along with A'ja Wilson, and then went smaller in the second quarter. The Bulldogs were not fit for Gamecocks and South Carolina led 48-22 in the first half and went on to win a 90-40 game which represented their biggest win in the tournament.
- Arizona State faces Michigan State in a match between eight and nine seeds. The Sun Devils' Quinn Dornstauder attempted six field goals and four free throws, making each of them, leading to 16 points. Although Tori Jankoska of Owich State scored 26 points, he was held to two points in the first half and scored most of his points late in the game when Arizona State had a big advantage. The State of Arizona accounted for 59% of field efforts in the first half that led to 22 margin points at the break. They went on to win the 73-61 game.
- Quinnipiac opened their game with a 18-4 run against fifth seed Marquette. The Bobcats had extended their lead to 19 points, 52-33 in the third quarter when Marquette began to bounce back. Golden Eagles cut the lead to two points towards the end of the game. Quinnipiac took a three-point lead at the last minute when Marquette made a three-point throw to equalize but it gave the Bobcats their first win of the NCAA tournament. Jennifer Fay scored 20 points for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac ended in a 68-65 victory.
- Fourth-seed Miami took 13 seeded Florida Gulf Coast. Miami leads most of the way by 13 points, but the Eagles are set to go back and lead a little at the end of the game. The game was tied with 1.5 seconds left when Keyona Hayes scored to give a two-point cyclone. Florida Gulf Coast tries to set up the last game but can not score. Miami won the 62-60 game.

Television
ESPN has US television rights for all matches during the tournament. For the first and second rounds, ESPN shows nationally selected games on ESPN2, ESPNU, or ESPNews. All other games are broadcasted regionally on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN3 and streamed online through WatchESPN. Most of the nation gets whipping coverage during this time, allowing ESPN to rotate the game and focus the nation on the game that has the closest score. The Lexington and Oklahoma City regional semifinals aired simultaneously on ESPN and ESPN2, while ESPN broadcasted regional semifinals Bridgeport and Stockton and the four regional finals. The National Semifinals aired on ESPN2, and the National Championships at ESPN.

Westwood One has exclusive radio rights for the entire tournament. Teams participating in the Regional Final, Final Four and Championship are allowed to have their own local broadcast, but they are not allowed to stream the broadcast online.
