The 2013-14 Premier League (known as the Barclays Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is the 22nd season of the Premier League, the top professional English league for club soccer men. The schedule is announced on 19 June 2013. The season begins on Saturday 17th August 2013, and ends on Sunday 11 May 2014.
On the final day of the season, Manchester City won the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over West Ham United, ending with 86 points. Liverpool looked on course to win the title with two weeks to go but the loss and draw in two of their last three matches, combined with Manchester City winning their last five league games, ultimately meant they finished second with 84 points. Chelsea finished third and Arsenal, who lead the table for the longest period, finished fourth. Manchester United suffered a disappointing season trying to defend their title and finish in seventh, which was then the worst-ever performance for Premier League holders. Norwich City, Fulham, and Cardiff City finished in the bottom three and relegated to the Football League Championship.
Luis SuÃÆ'árez won the title with 31 goals, and was also crowned as the Player of the Season. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szcz? Sny from Arsenal and Petr? Ech Chelsea lead the league with 16 clean sheets each. Tony Pulis from Crystal Palace won the Season Manager award.

A total of 20 teams compete in the league, including 17 teams from the 2012-13 season and three promoted from the 2012-13 Football League Championship.
On 16 April 2013, Cardiff City earned promotion from the 2012-13 Football League Championship. They returned to the top division after a 51-year absence. This is Cardiff's first season in the Premier League. This season features Cardiff City and Swansea City, marking the first time the South Wales derby has come on top. It was also the first time that two clubs outside England were featured on the top of English football in the same season.
On May 4, 2013, Hull City gained promotion to the Premier League after a brief absence of three seasons. Hull must beat Cardiff City on the final day of the season to maintain second place, but a draw is enough after Watford's dramatic loss at home against Leeds United.
On 27 May 2013, Crystal Palace claimed the final promotion spot, having beaten Watford in the final play-off of the Football League Championship with Kevin Phillips changing the winner's penalty in extra-time. This means the Palace is playing in the Premier League for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
The three teams were promoted to replace Queens Park Rangers, Reading and Wigan Athletic who were all relegated to the Championship at the end of the previous season.

Season summary
380 fixtures for the 2013-14 Premier League season announced on June 19, 2013. Television rights are awarded two to three weeks later. The season starts on Saturday 17th August 2013, and ends on Sunday 11th May 2014. During the 2013-14 season, the Premier League uses first-line technology.
During the 2013-14 season, the first place changed hands 25 times, compared only four times during the 2012-13 season. It represents the most leading change since the 2001-02 season - which has 29, the most. Championships are not decided until the last day of play only for the seventh time in league history. Manchester City won the league with a 2-0 win over West Ham United in the final day, ending with 86 points. In total, Manchester City led the league only 14 days throughout the season on their way to their second championship in the last three seasons. The club scored 102 goals, one shorter than the record, while also conceding a second least goal in the league.
With two weeks to go, Liverpool looked like they had a chance to win the championship before they suffered a loss and a draw in two of their last three games. The team finished in second place with 84 points. Chelsea are third, while lasting strength and 2013 champion Manchester United suffered a disappointing season under new manager David Moyes (who was fired in April) and finished seventh. It was their first appearance outside of the top four in Premier League history, their worst overall finish since 1989-90, and the first time they have not qualified for European football in 25 years. Southampton's eighth place and Everton's 72 points are club records.
Sunderland became only the second team in the Premier League era to avoid relegation at the bottom of Christmas. Losing at home against Everton on April 12 left Gus Poyet's side bottom of the table, seven points clear of the safe zone (albeit with two games in hand). The club's "great escape" started with a draw at the end of Manchester City champions, followed by a run of four wins, including a remarkable away win at Chelsea and Manchester United. The survival of the team was confirmed by a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on 7 May. Norwich City, Fulham and Cardiff City are the bottom three teams and relegated to the Football League Championship.
Two teams (Manchester City and Liverpool) scored more than 100 goals for the first time in league history. This achievement was only ever achieved before - by Chelsea in 2009-10. Luis SuÃÆ'árez won the golden boot for most of the goals with 31, ahead of team-mate Daniel Sturridge who finished second with 21 goals. Wojciech Szcz? Sny from Arsenal and Petr? Ech Chelsea lead the league with 16 clean sheets each. In a game against Southampton, Asmir Begovi? became the fifth goalkeeper in league history to score. Begovic's goal is also the fastest in this season, going only 12 seconds in the game. Mile Jedinak has the tackle at most with 133. Chelsea manager José Mourinho lost the home game for the first time in his Premier League career, losing to Sunderland and ending a run of 77 unbeaten streaks, spanning more than two tasks as Chelsea manager.
