Carl Mathew Theodore "Ted" Sundquist II (born May 1, 1962) is an American football player, manager and commentator. He spent sixteen years working in the National Football League for the Denver Broncos franchise. Sundquist was hired in 1992 as Assistant to Personnel Players, and two years later was promoted to Director of College Scouting. In 2001, Pat Bowlen promoted Sundquist to General Manager.

Early life and education

Sundquist was born in Houston, Texas and studied at Spring Woods High School in Houston, Texas, where he played football, and was a team mate of Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens. He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, Colorado. Springs, Bachelor of Science in Soviet Area Studies from the United States Air Force Academy.

Sundquist graduated in 1984 from the United States Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he played fullback for the Falcon football team. He was the team captain in 1983. The Falcons had a top bowl victory over Vanderbilt (1982 Hall of Fame Bowl) & amp; Mississippi (1983 Independence Bowl) while Sundquist was on the team. Sundquist returned to the Air Force as an assistant coach in 1989, and named the headmaster of the US Air Force Academy Preparation School from 1990 to 1992.

During his post in Berlin, Sundquist trained for and became a member of the 1984-1988 US Wagon National Team. Sundquist competed in the 1988 Olympic trials, but they were cut short with a shoulder injury.

Denver Broncos

Sundquist joined the Broncos in 1993 as a Scout as Assistant Personnel Player (1992-1994), Director of the Scout from 1995-2001 and later promoted to General Manager where he stayed for 6 years from 2002 to 2008.

At the age of 33 Sundquist served as College Scouting Director and in that role during the Broncos' back-to-back Super Bowl won in 1997 and 1998. He guided pro and college guides, and was responsible for the payroll and contract analysis. Sundquist was promoted to GM in 2002 by owner Pat Bowlen after being pursued by the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons organizations. He was also a finalist for the position of President with Seattle Seahawks in 2004. He started at GM with five successive win seasons, a franchise record. Sundquist left the Broncos following a 7-9 record in the 2007 Denver Broncos season. Players reached the playoffs three times under the Sundquist manager. Sundquist helped Denver attract free agents like John Lynch, Daniel Graham, and Travis Henry.

Acquired Talent

During his tenure, Sundquist helped land players in Denver such as John Lynch, Daniel Graham, Al Wilson, John Mobley, Brandon Marshall, Mike Anderson, Gary Olandis, Clinton Portis (WAS), Reggie Hayward (JAX), Trevor Pryce (BAL) Brian Griese (TB), Deltha O'Neal (NE), and Nick Harris (DET). Sundquist is known as one of GM who is more active in the acquisition of players through drafting, agent signing and free trade.

Under Sundquist, the Broncos became one of the most active traders in the league. His most prominent move came just before the 2004 season, when he tackled the star who ran back Clinton Portis to the Washington Redskins in exchange for the Corn Bailey cornerback, another to get Dre Bly from the Detroit Lions, and the No. pick draft. 2 which turned out to be a Tatum Bell. He also drafted a 2006 draft deal with St. Louis allowed Denver to move from the No. pick. 29 overall to No. 11, where they chose the Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler. As a result, GM GM Sundquist was the start of a franchise-record of five successive win seasons.

Post-Broncos Career

In the 2008-2009 football season, Sundquist worked as an expert analyst and editorial commentator with ProFootballTalk.com. In early 2009, Sundquist was mentioned in several general manager's searches at the National Football League, including Kanasas City Chief who interviewed Sundquist for their open GM positions. In December 2010, Sundquist was interviewed for open GM positions with the San Francisco 49ers. Sundquist is also a candidate included in GM's 2013 New York Jets quest. Sundquist released its first book on June 7, 2013 titled Bringing Your Team to the Top: How to Build and Manage Big Teams like the Pro. In his book he outlines the base needed to discover abilities and talents while increasing teamwork to achieve any business goals.

From 2008 to 2013 he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Air Force Academy Foundation which supports programs from the United States Air Force Academy's Atletic Department. In 2010 he is also the Director of Personnel Player for Omaha Nighthawks at UFL.
