Super Sunday is the day that the annual Super Bowl championship game, National Football League (NFL) is played. It is usually observed on the first Sunday of February and is sometimes referred to as an unofficial national holiday. The 52nd annual event, Super Bowl LII, takes place on February 4, 2018. Celebrations for Super Sunday usually involve a group of people who gather to watch the game. "Super Sunday" and "Super Bowl Sunday" are registered trademarks of the National Football League.

Celebration
Although not an official holiday, Super Sunday is a time when many families and friends gather together to watch the game, including those who are not soccer fans. Although sports bars have been historically busy at the Super Sunday in the past, it is becoming more common for people to watch games from home. This is partly due to the growing size of home television in the United States as well as the efforts of budget conscious consumers to save money.
Because watching the Super Bowl is very popular, stores are often empty during games, especially in the areas represented by both teams playing in the Super Bowl, and decreasing water use, with significant usage increases during breaks and after games, like fans using the bathroom. In addition, the church sometimes canceled the afternoon or evening service on a Super Sunday, held a soccer-themed charity event, or delivered a sermon designed to attract male members of the congregation.
NFL executives have called for a three-day weekend to allow fans to celebrate the event, and there is an expected loss of productivity in the American workforce on Monday after the event. TV networks carrying games (either CBS, Fox, or NBC) will typically devote all programming schedules throughout the day to the game, with extended pregame performances, retrospective NFL movies from previous seasons, and special versions of talk shows on Sunday morning and afternoon before the game. Competing networks, due to the severe loss of viewers at Super Bowl celebrations, generally use low cost counting measures such as Puppy Bowl.

Food
A large amount of food and alcohol is consumed on Super Sunday. This event is the second largest food consumption event in the United States, behind Thanksgiving dinner, and several police departments have seen a dramatic increase in drunk driving on Super Sunday.
Super Sunday food is usually served buffet style, not as a sit-down meal. Traditional dishes eaten on Super Sundays include buffalo wings, chillies, baby back ribs, dips, pizza, and potato chips. Many pizza delivery businesses see their order quantity doubled because about 60 percent of orders ordered on Super Sunday are pizza. Approximately 28,000,000 pounds (13,000,000 kg) of chips, 1.25 billion chicken wings, and 3,600,000 kg (3,600,000 kg) of guacamole consumed during Super Sunday.
