Fantastique Ballet is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit ballet company based in Eugene, Oregon, and directed by mother-son team Donna and Hannah Bontrager. Ballet Fantastique was founded in October 2000 and currently has three components: a professional ballet company, a pre-professional academy in Russian Vaganova training methods, and a busy outreach wing (bringing dance to a variety of audiences both at school and at school) in the theater ). Ballet Fantastique became the company of residence at Eugene Hult Center for the Performing Arts in June 2014.

The contemporary space company Ballet Fantastique is directed by mother-daughter choreographer Donna Marisa and Hannah Bontrager and consists of 7-12 professional artists from around the world. The company is a field of auditions from dancers across the US and internationally. Since 2003, the company has presented all original contemporary ballet productions each season at Hult Center for the Performing Arts. Ballet Fantastique also toured, and has performed with Ballet Rogue in Medford, Oregon, at the internationally recognized Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon, and at the Lincoln Performance Hall in downtown Portland, Oregon, to name a few. The company is called "a daring cross-discipline dance company" by Dante Zuniga-West of Eugene Weekly (2011). According to Portland Center Stage Reviews, Fantastique Ballet has "made a name for itself in the out-of-the-box revision of classic storytelling."

Fantastique Ballet concerts often feature collaborations with live artists and musicians. Local gallery painting projections were used as a backdrop for the Danse en Rouge performances: Red Variations at Hult's Center for Performing Arts, which also included Trio Voronezh and classical guitarist John Jarvie. In 2009, Ballet Fantastique teamed up with composer Jeremy Schropp and 25 parts of the orchestra at the Visions d'Amour: 10 Ballet in Paris for its premiere ballet inspired by Vincent van Gogh, "Night at Cafà © Terrace". Other well-known collaborations include the Mozart Oregon Players, Karin Clarke Gallery, Eugene Symphony, Shelley and Cal James and Agents of Unity Band for Cinderella: A Rock Opera Ballet, and the LA-based Incendio band.

The Fantastique Ballet space company has announced their latest season: Season 17-18 RENEGADE BALLET. Seventh brave season, breaking all the rules, rebel ballads are here - and this is the most daring to date. It starts with the premiere of the fall legend of Sleepy Hollow with live music by DrÃÆ' Â © os and Eliot Grasso, October 17-19, 2017. For the holidays, the Bontragers bring An American Christmas Carol back to Hult Center, with live music by Halie Loren, December 15-17 2017, March 2-4, 2017 brings Zorro: The Ballet lives again with live music by Incendio and Kim Angelis. The Spring 2018 world premiere, May 11-13, will be Alice in Wonderland: (An Electro-Swing) Remix with live music by High Step Society.

Fantastique Ballet Academy

The Academy of Ballet Fantastique teaches ballet classes for 2-24 year old dancers, and also offers a separate Adult Dance Program for teenagers and adults ages 13. The Academy recognizes students of race, color, and national or ethnic origin whatever.

In the Professional Training Division, dancers age 9 and up learn the Vaganova Method of training in a limited class size of 12 students or fewer

The Young Dancer Program at The Academy of Ballet Fantastique is for dancers aged 2 years and over, and follows a progressive training approach as well, while introducing young people to creative movements, music education, and ballet basics.

Students participate in professional performances with companies, and can audition for corporate positions and internships after graduation. Academy Ballet Trainers Fantastique is experienced in Vaganova training methods as well as in pedagogy and professional performance.

Reach

The busy Ballet Fantastique outreach program includes scholarships for dancers in financial needs, free tickets for youth to attend concerts, integrated school art residencies, and school assembly shows.

History

Fantastique Ballet became a non-profit Oregon in 2003 and obtained a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit status in 2006. The organization was established to bring dance training, performance and performance opportunities to the Lane County area. The company's first performance at the Hult Center was Danse Renaissance in June 2003. On October 30, 2010, Ballet Fantastique opened the City Center for Dance which was very visible at 960 Oak Street, funded mostly by a grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust.
