The All-American team is an honorary sports team that generally consists of the best amateur players of a particular season for each team position - who in turn are given the honor of "All-American" and are commonly referred to as "All-American athletes", or simply "All-American ". This term is used in U.S. team sports. to refer to players selected by members of the national media. Walter Camp chose the first All-America team in the early days of American football in 1889.
Both the McDonald's All-American team selection and the selection of the Jordan Brand All-American team have connected all the high school basketball games held with them, where the players are split into two teams to compete in an exhibition match. The Jordan Brand held its first contest in 2002. McDonald's All-American has been competing in such contests since 1977, and girls games were added in 2002. Both the Parade and USA Today i> list including underclassmen, but the senior fifth year is not eligible for the Parade team. The lists are also ordinal teams designated as first team, second team, etc., while McDonald's and Jordan Brand teams are selected without distinction among voters. In basketball, some All-American teams are organized by position, while others are not.
In 2006, 47 high school boy basketball players were selected for the All-American main honors teams. For a selection in 2006, McDonald's selected 24 players for its All-American team; Jordan Brand includes 21 players, and the All-USA preparation basketball team is 15 years old. The list also includes 40 Parade All-American, the largest of the four teams. The 2006 McDonald's All-American class is considered the best class of the decade, with about 22 out of 24 expected to reach the National Basketball Association when they have spent their college eligibility, which in most cases is four years of competition in five years of enrollment.
Sherron Collins, Kevin Durant, Wayne Ellington, Spencer Hawes, Tywon Lawson, Greg Oden, Brandan Wright and Thaddeus Young are named for all four lists. Among these groups, Durant, Hawes, Lawson and Oden were selected for the first team of both organizations to name their choice. Collins is the only one not listed. Oden and Derrick Rose were both NBA Draft's overall number one choice, in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Gerald Henderson, Jr. is the highest choice in the 2009 NBA Draft (overall 12). Damion James and Stanley Robinson are the only options of this group in the 2010 NBA Draft. Kyle Singler and Vernon Macklin are the last drafts of this group in the 2011 NBA Draft.
