On January 16, 1999, at TASW's 6 year "Rumble in Humble" supercard, Houston Chronicle columnist Ken Hoffman made his pro wrestling debut against The Jester in the opening battle; he not only lost the match but had to be taken out of the ring on a stretcher. Hoffman has previously covered promotions during the mid-1990s and will continue to make occasional appearances over the next few years donating his prize money to charity. The reporter signed with a series of Texas-style Death matches, in the absence of the referee and "whatever happened," against The Jester. The match was held at Silverwings Ballroom in Brenham on February 13th, Civic Center in Diboll on March 5, Humble Bingo Arena on March 6, at Port Lavaca on March 13 and at Spring High School in Spring, Texas on March 20, 1999. Winners Miss Hooters Girl 1999 Alisa Wong is her valet for this match.
That summer, the promotion began producing weekly late-night series that was broadcast on KNWS-TV. Hoffman also made a comeback in "Rumble in Humble" where he suddenly won the TASW Cruiserweight Championship in Three-Way Dance with Bones and "Loverboy" Joey Corman. He is aided in his victory due to interference from Alisa Wong and his manager, Sean "The Cablinasian" Pendergast. Hoffman also entered "Humble Rumble", a 20-man battle royale for $ 15,000 and a title shoot against TASW Heavyweight Champion "Mean" Mike Tatum, but quickly got rid of him after entering the ring. He defended his title in a rematch with Bones on February 12 and managed to defend his six-month title against opponents such as Brother Icarus, Bonez and Jester until finally handing the title to TASW promoter Bob Murphy that summer.
21st century
In 2000, TASW regularly draws between 300 and 800 fans every month in its home arena in Humble and also promotes performances in other cities outside Harris County and Houston including Texas City, Baytown, Port Lavaca, Brenham and El Campo. In August of that year, a story about Murphy and TASW was featured in Houston Press and profiled some of his top stars including the female wrestlers Skyler and Nadia Payne, Big Daddy from Cincinnati, Mini Stuff, Mr. Fu Ku, Spanish Fly, "Playboy" Joey Corman, Rasta Savage, Necro Butcher and Shawn Hernandez. The story got a positive response from readers, however, the World of Wrestling promoter wrote a letter to an editor criticizing the article for "lack of research and professionalism" and TASW for his inappropriate fan behavior. He asked the newspaper to give "the same exposure" and invited the author, Jesse Washington, to attend the upcoming show.
A year later, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan wrestled for promotion during the summer and early fall of 2001. During his first task with TASW, Duggan fought the Harlem Heat 2000 (Big T and Stevie Ray) of World Championship Wrestling. Kamala and Mike Tatum presented the TASW event at the Humble Bingo Arena on February 22, 2003. Later that year, the promotion held a memorial for one of the former stars and the official announcer, Brother Icarus, in the arena on October 4, 2003. Ken Hoffman, who has wrestled with him two years earlier, wrote a column to commemorate his death. He remembered in a later column that during the game he secretly owns Jim Adler, a celebrity TV attorney known as "Tough Texas Lawyer", meddling in the game on his behalf. He orders Brother Icarus to stop attacking Hoffman, who has strangled him and pulled his hair, and threatened to catch Icarus for attacks and batteries. When fans began to jeer, Adler threatened to call the entire audience as a witness. This disruption allows Hoffman to roll his opponent to victory and quickly run away with his belt.
The promotion was praised by The Galveston County Daily News, the oldest newspaper listed in the state of Texas, as "the best-run independent group in the state" and crediting Bob Murphy for keeping TASW out of a well-publicized dispute between them. matches Texas promotion. Scott E. Williams, a daily journalist for The Galveston County Daily, wrote in early 2004 that TASW "is arguably the top independent wrestling group in the entire state". On January 10, 2004, several TASW wrestlers participated in a show for High Impact Wrestling at Nessler Center Texas City entitled by Johnny Blade and Kamala. The event also served as a professional wrestling debut Scott E. Williams who agreed to participate as a special guest referee at the main event in exchange for a donation to fund United Way The Daily News. On June 5, Tom Prichard, the best talent scout for World Wrestling Entertainment, conducted a "no-hold" clinic at the TASW wrestling school in Humble. Also that summer, Jim Duggan returned to promotion and, on the supercard "Tomball Streetfight" August 7, defeated TASW Heavyweight Champion Zen-Zen for the title. At the 11th anniversary of the 2005 "Humble Rumble", Williams wrote "In addition to being one of the country's longest independent states, TASW has been the best in Texas".
