Pete Hughes is an American college baseball coach and head coach of the Kansas State Wildcats baseball team. Previously he served as baseball head coach of Oklahoma Sooners and baseball team Virginia Tech Hokies.

After growing up in Brockton, Massachusetts, Hughes studied at Boston College High School, with baseball and soccer for Elang. Hughes was then a quarterback midfielder at Davidson College. He also plays third base for the Wildcats baseball team.

After finishing college, Hughes became an assistant coach for baseball and football at Hamilton College. He stayed there for an academic year before moving to Northeastern in the same dual capacity. After five years, he decided to focus on baseball and get his first head coach job at Trinity University in Texas. Taking just two seasons to boost the Tigers to the conference championship, Hughes was hired by Boston College after the 1998 season. His success with the Eagles also soon, raising the Boston College record with nine wins in his first year. Hughes received numerous Coach of the Year awards in his second season, including awards from the Big East Conference and regional voters from the American Baseball Coaches Association. He will get more such awards in 2002 and 2005. He also leads the Eagles to the Big East Conference Baseball Tournament five times in seven years. Boston College just appeared in the tournament once before his arrival.
Hughes was hired as head coach at Virginia Tech early in the 2007 season, replacing Chuck Hartman Hall of Fame, who had led the Hokies for 28 years earlier. Hughes has rebuilt the Hokies into power, bringing the team back to national rank and to the Atlantic Coast Baseball Tournament on a regular basis. Hughes earned a three-year contract extension after the 2009 season. He was hired by the Oklahoma Sooners in 2014. He was released by Sooners in June 2017. On July 31, 2017, Hughes was appointed assistant volunteer in Georgia. On June 8, 2018, Hughes was appointed head coach of the Kansas State Wildcats baseball team.
