Greenville High School , the official name of Bond County Community Unit # 2 High School , is a high school for 9-12th grade students located in Greenville, Illinois. It serves students from many Bond County, Illinois, including Pocahontas and Sorento.
The school is often referred to as GHS and is home to the Greenville Comets sports team.

Histori
Greenville has a 138-year high school, with the first "Greenville College" established in 1869. The school begins under the supervision of Samuel Inglis, who will then become a public school supervisor. The first building was torn down and the new Central School was established on Second Street in 1894. In 1915, a new school building was located on the streets of Beaumont and Wyatt. The current building was built in 1956; the former Beaumont building was used as a Greenville Junior High after a new high school was built. When the new high school was opened, the secondary schools in Pocahontas and Sorento were closed and the students started attending GHS.
Noted environmentalist Howard Zahniser, who wrote the Wilderness Act of 1964, taught English at Greenville High School in the 1930s. 1956 Prohibition of the Party of candidates for President, Enoch A. Holtwick, is a professor of history and government at Greenville College and talked to the Greenville High School classes in the 1950s.
The annual book is named The Graduate and has been published since 1918. The school newspaper was originally named The G Whiz , then The GHS Times The Comet Spirit .
Country music star Gretchen Wilson attended Greenville High School but did not graduate.

Class
Students can take various classes at school. Students who prefer vocational learning can take a bus to Vandalia and attend classes at the Okaw Valley Vocational Center. This building trades classes in the center every year, buys property in Vandalia, builds houses, and resells them; they have sold 33 houses this way.
Library
The school employs a full-time librarian; students can serve as workers in the library during their studies.
Students can use online reference sources, such as OCLC, from schools or homes to access the billions of periodic provided by OCLC WorldCat as research resources. In addition, as a member of Lewis & amp; The Clark Library System and the ISHare (formerly Illininet) state-wide and statewide database system, the library also gives students access to thousands of books from hundreds of school, public, and college libraries by means of inter-community lending.
Any student who wants one is issued a library card and is responsible for all material checked on the card. Fine imposed for late books.
Sports program
GHS is a member of the Illinois High School Association and plays at the Southern Center Conference.
Baseball
GHS has a boy baseball team, which is divided into junior teams of universities and universities. In 2007, the boys squad won regional championships and advanced to Kaskaskia Sectional. In 1998, the squad won regional championships, then moved on to win the sectional championship, and ended the season putting 3 in the State.
Basketball
GHS has a girls' basketball team and boys. Both teams are divided into new students, junior university teams and universities. Greenville finished fourth in the men's 1923 basketball tournament.
Football
The GHS football program consists of three teams: university, junior university and freshman. The university soccer team from 2006-07 went to Elite Eight in the state championship, the third time the Greenville team did it. They then went to the Final Four and lost one point.
The football program first started in 1926, discontinued in 1930, and restored in Greenville in 1956.
Golf
Greenville has a women's and boys golf team, which plays in the fall. The women's golf team was the regional champion in 2006.
Soccer
Football is a sport of boys in the fall and sports girls in the spring. It was added in 1999 as a university sport.
Softball
Softball is a women's spring sport.
Tennis
Tennis at GHS is a women's fall sport and spring sports boy.
Track and put
Track is a spring sport for girls and boys in GHS.
