Plot

While talking to Elaine about her favorite yellow shirt, "Golden Boy" (who because of her age, "dying"), Jerry told her the War and Peace novel was originally called War, What Is Good For ? (reference to Edwin Starr hit song "War"). Kramer gives Elaine an electronic organizer. Also he has earned 600 titles of Titleist golf balls from the driving range and decides to practice his driving skills by hitting them overboard rather than driving range.

Jerry meets a college girl friend (Rosalind Allen), and claims that George is a marine biologist. George, who now expects a call from him, is upset that he prefers to lie about being an architect.

Elaine tells what Jerry told her with an eccentric Russian writer, Yuri Testikov (George Murdock), who is being approached by Publishing Pendant, his company. This led to a brief argument between Elaine, Mr. Lippman & amp; Testikov. After listening to Elaine's electronic sound repeatedly, Testikov angrily took it from him and tossed it out of the limousine window they shared.

Kramer goes home with an insult, having missed every ball except one, and becoming obsessed with removing sand from his clothes. On the beach, George continues to lie about his work when he is called to use his marine biological skills that are not there to save the stranded whales on the beach. Later, Jerry receives a phone call from a woman named Corinne (Carol Kane) who sees his phone number in the organizer after hitting his head on his head as he walks down the street. The two meet in Monk's Cafà ©  © and the woman will not return organizer Elaine to Jerry until she gets compensated for the hospital bill.

Elaine wants Testikov to pay her bills, so she and Jerry go face him in her hotel room. Elaine had a tape recorder in her bag, Testikov heard the sound and thought they secretly taped it; he reacts by throwing a tape recorder out the window, hitting the same woman in the head while he waits outside to restore the electronic organizer. Meanwhile, while trying to get the sand out of his shoes, Kramer accidentally knocked him out of his apartment window, hitting Newman who happened to be walking under it.

At Monk's CafÃÆ'Â ©, this episode ends with George's dramatic remarks about his struggle with the whales in the famous climax:

George : So I started walking to the water. I will not lie to you, son, I'm scared! But I kept pressing â € "and as I walked past the breakers, a strange calm came toward me. I do not know if it is divine intervention or kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that time - I am a marine biologist!... The sea was angry that day, my friends, like parents trying to send back the soup to the grocery store! I was about fifty feet and suddenly, the big beast appeared in front of me. I say yes, he's ten levels if he's a foot. As if feeling my presence, he made a loud noise. I said, "Easy big man!" And then, when I saw him struggling, I realized that something was blocking his breath. From where I stand, I can see directly into the eyes of the big fish!
Jerry : Mammals.
George : Whatever.

George revealed that the whale's hole had been blocked with a Kramer golf ball. Kramer responded gently that it was a "hole in one." George also told his girlfriend about not really being a marine biologist; he threw it out as a result. Elaine then asked Jerry what happened to the "Golden Boy"; she tells him that "unsuccessful", but has now been replaced by her son, "Baby Blue."

Critical reception

Rick Kushman of The Sacramento Bee listed this as one of the Top Ten Seinfeld Episodes: "a brilliantly plotted story that weaves together all sorts of silliness," including this famous exchange:

Jerry : I might have mentioned that you are a marine biologist.
George : But I am not a marine biologist.
Jerry, I know that ... later...
George : Why can not you make me an architect? You know I always wanted to pretend to be an architect.

In 2009, a New Hampshire Union columnist speculated that one could ask "people to name their favorite marine biologist... and the most likely answer is George Costanza."
