Maguire University is a fictional college created in 1963 by a group of Chicago high school basketball coaches, for the sole purpose of securing tickets to the NCAA Final Four.

The idea was hatched by Fenwick High School coach Len Tyrrell at Pub Maguire in Forest Park, Illinois. The NCAA falls for it, and so does at least one real school: the United States Air Force Academy, who contacts Tyrrell (the self-proclaimed Maguire as "Chancellor") and asks to play his non-existent team.

Maguire (nicknamed "Jollymen") received a Final Four ticket for two years, until Bill Jauss wrote about the fraud at the Chicago Tribune. The NCAA was not entertained. The trainers then have to get their own tickets, and at least one of them has attended every Final Four (or, as they call it, Final Five) ever since. Motto Maguire, "We Play Hurt", is a reference to hangovers caused by "disciples" Maguire.

Terrell cultivated a fake "university" enrollment of eight original members up to more than 150 in thirty years of running the fake school. He is also named member of the first Maguire Hall of Fame, after resigning his position in 2000. Kelly's Pub, on Webster Street in Chicago, serves as a campus campus since the closing of Maguire's Pub in 1988.

For Final Four 2018 (featuring Loyola University Chicago, Chicago's first team to make Final Four since DePaul in 1979), Jollymen is based at Drury Plaza Hotel in San Antonio.
