Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium is a baseball place in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is home to the UIC Flames baseball team from the NCAA Division I Horizon League. The facility has a capacity of 1,000 spectators and is named after Les Miller, UIC's head baseball coach from 1949-1979, and Curtis Granderson, an alumnus of the program. During Miller's term, the program won more than 500 games. Granderson named the year's conference player with the Flames in 2002 and then played in Major League Baseball. On September 17, 2013, UIC broke out at a new stadium on the same site, funded in part by a donation from Granderson. It consists of a new structure of housing a press box, a break room, and a stands, and finished for the 2014 season.

History

In the spring of 1996, Les Miller field development was completed. His first game came on May 4, 1996, against Wright State. In 1998, 1999, 2001, 2008 and 2012, Miller Field hosted the Horizon League Baseball Tournament. Also, the venue has twice hosted the Amateur National All-Star Baseball Tournament.

Other uses

In 1996, the field was the filming location for the movie Primal Fear . Also, scenes from the television show ER have been shot at the venue.

In 2010, the high school baseball team of St. Ignatius College Prep uses the field as a temporary home.

Features

Field features include artificial grass surfaces, press boxes, electronic scoreboards, rest rooms, brick backstop, soft outer walls (added in 2010), toilets, and concessions. The surface of artificial grass was installed before the 2008 season.
