America's Ballroom Challenge | PBS Hawai'i

The Challenge of the American Ballroom is a competitive ballroom dance television series broadcasted on the Public Broadcasting Service in the United States since 2006.

It is part of the annual Ohio Star Ball, the DanceSport festival in Columbus, Ohio.

Each season usually consists of competitions in five categories, with the first four categories devoted to each of the main styles of a competitive ballroom dance:

  • Finely American : Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Vienna Waltz
  • American Rhythm : Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing East Coast, Bolero, Mambo
  • International Standard : Waltz, Tango, Vienna Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep
  • Latin International : Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive

The final category is "Grand Finale" with four champion pairs competing for the title of "America's Best" dancer.

Dancing Ballroom Championships

Prior to the American Ballroom Challenge, PBS featured the Dance Ballroom Championship , also from the Ohio Star Ball, annually since 1980. The one-show show featured the latest round of International Standards and International Latin Style from competition with exhibitions in between by winners from other categories not shown on the broadcast.
