While at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Emmenecker is a two-star sport, starting and captaining the basketball team for three years and earning all league titles twice in baseball. His high school basketball stats are those who get the first point guard - 8.4 assists per game and not just 4.7 points per game. He also averaged 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game. In his 2003-04 senior season, he led his team to a 22-2 record and ranked # 25 in last year's high school basketball poll USA Today . Emmenecker is an honorary all-state player in Class A Michigan, and also named the exceptional graduate of Arthur Hill in 2004.

Direct blurriness
Emmenecker did not accept the NCAA Division I scholarship offer in basketball, and almost decided to play baseball at Boston College before choosing to attend Drake. He received a Presidential Scholarship, a partial college scholarship "for academic achievement," and also walked to the basketball team. In his first season (2004-05), he played in 12 games, with his most extensive game action being six minutes against Western Illinois. As a student in 2005-2006, he played in 29 games, two starts, and an average of seven minutes. The following year, he became Bulldog's biggest reserve guard, averaging 11 minutes per game in 23 games before his season ended with a shoulder injury against Missouri State.

2007-08: Cinderella season
Going into the 2007-08 season, Drake is considered lightweight, returning only one starter, forward Klayton Korver, from a 2006-07 team that has won 17 matches. In a pre-season MVC poll of media members, league coaches, and league sports information directors, the Bulldog was selected to finish ninth of 10 teams, and no Drake players were selected even as a respectable mention in the all-pre-season league conference team. Emmenecker reached a personal milestone two days before the Bulldog started their season. After three years as a walk-on, he was given a full athletic scholarship for his final season.
After dividing two games in California to open the season, Drake emerged as one of the surprises of the 2007-08 basketball season, starting a winning streak that will reach 21 games before ending on 13 February 2008 against Southern Illinois. The Bulldogs then completed 15-3 in the conference game, winning their regular MVC regular season title since 1971 by two games. They added MVC Tournament to their regular season crown, securing their first NCAA Tournament bid since 1971 and their first postseason place in any kind since NIT 1986. The Bulldogs continued to lose heartbreaker overtime in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Western Kentucky on a three-pointer long in bell by Ty Rogers from the West. In his last competitive match, Emmenecker struggled with his shot from the field, going 0-for-10, but still got double-double with 11 points and 14 assists.
The former player appears as a major star in Drake's Cinderella season. Although he averages only 8.5 points per game for the season, the average in regular season MVC is 10.3. Emmenecker's contribution in other aspects of the game proved far more important than his judgment. His 6.45 assists per game lead MVC with more than one per game, and he set a one-season school record to help. He is also among the top five league-in-steady and assist-to-turnover ratios, and in top 10 leagues in minutes played, free-throw percentage, and - somewhat surprisingly for a 6'1 "(1.85 m) guard point - offensive purchases.
Emmenecker became the largest player in the 2007-2008 MVC:
- He was named captain of the All-Improved MVC Team, joining Drake's co-stars Jonathan Cox and Leonard Houston on the team.
- He also made the first team of All-MVC with Josh Young.
- Additionally, he was named MVC Player Larry Bird of the Year.
- Finally, he was named MVP from MVC Tournament 2008.
When MVC announced him as a season MVP, it called him "probably the most impossible MVC Player of the Year (based on pre-season expectations) in league history." Entering the 2007-08 season, he has played 58 games in three seasons, but only two starts, and has a career total of 57 points and 64 assists. 2007-08 season totals in points, assists, and rebounds are all at least double that of previous career statistics in each category.
The 2007-2008 season Emmenecker, and of course his Drake career, may be best summarized by Keno Davis, who is Drake's assistant under his father, Dr. Tom Davis, when Emmenecker arrived as accompanist, succeeded his father as head coach for the 2007-08 season, named 2008 MVC Coach of the Year, and won several national awards of Best Coach of the Year:
We thought maybe in his final year he could start for us. But I never knew he could do this. He surpassed all our expectations, just like our team has.
It should also be noted that Adam was recognized as the Honorable in the All-American AP Team. She shares Honorable Mentions Honors with stars like Mario Chalmers, Brandon Rush and Darrell Arthur (Kansas), Drew Neitzel (State of Michigan), as well as Tyler Smith (Tennessee).
Jethro's BBQ local restaurant in Des Moines was named the dining challenge after Emmenecker. It consists of a topped cheeseburger with bacon, Texas beef, fried cheese brisket, white cheddar sauce, buffalo chicken slices, pork tenderloin, all bun with spicy pickles. This was accompanied by a pound of waffle fries. All of these foods should be consumed in 15 minutes "to win". This challenge is featured on the Travel Channel Man v. Food and Flemish tourist events Reizen Waes .
Academic praise
Emmenecker's achievements on the pitch in 2007-08 were virtually defeated by his academic record. In February 2008, it carried 3.97 average grades in three majors - management, finance, and entrepreneurial management. She was selected as an All-American Academy this year in Division I basketball man by the Director of Sports Information of American College, and also named MVC Scholar-Best Athlete of the Year in men's basketball.
